Kinkri Devi was a (Rani Jhansi-Stri Shakti) National Awarded Environmentalist of Sangrah Town . She had born on 04-July-1940 (According to passport) in village Ghaton of Sangrah Tehsil. Her father Kaliya Ram was a poor Hali (Laborer in Field). Kinkri Devi had not been taken formal education due to lack of money and educational institute in area. In the age of 13 year she had been married with Shyamu of village/town Sangrah and become mother in the age of 16. Mahila Mandal Sangrah elected her President of organization in 1970. In 1982 a powerful lobby or Capitalists of state started unscientific and illegal lime stone mining in Sangrah, Kamrau and Shiwabanor etc. areas of Himachal Pradesh. To protect the Forest and Environment she started a Campaign against Mine Owner/Mafiya with the help of Women’s and NGOS. Kinkri Devi filed a Public Interest Litigation (Lawsuit) in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh (Shimla) against unscientific and illegal lime stone mining. A local volunteer organization, the People's Action for People in Need, backed Devi as she filed a public interest lawsuit in the High Court. The court ordered stay on mining and imposed a blanket ban on blasting in her beloved hills. She went on a 19 day hunger strike outside the court. She won The Battle against Mine Mafia lobby of Himachal in 31-12-1991 when the court ordered to ban unscientific and illegal lime stone mining. She was awarded by Rani Jhansi National Award in 2001 by the Prime Minister of India for her contribution to protect environment n Forests of State. To fulfill the Demand of Govt. Degree College at Sangrah she started a movement in 2002. After her struggle of 3 years Government established Degree College Sangrah in 2005. Kinkri Devi had also been awarded by My Himachal, Sahitya parishad and many other organizations but she had not sufficient money to her cure when she is in influence of lungs disease. After long period of illness she died on 30 of December 2007.
